California- Blink 182
Blink-182, the American rock band, came back with a new album in July 2016. The album California has a new and unique sound, due to more focus on the drums in their songs. The album has me dancing in my seat to songs like “Sober” and “She’s Out of Her Mind”, but also sniffling at “Home is Such a Lonely Place” and “No Future”. With this new album, Blink explores more heartbreak than ever before, but also sticks close to their party roots. Don’t let that fool you though, there are still pieces like “Brohemian Rhapsody”, “Built a Pool”, definitely give off “Happy Holidays, You B*stard.”
The previous guitarist and co-lead vocalist Tom DeLonge was our pierced skater/surfer heartthrob, but he has been replaced by Matt Skiba, who blends with Mark Hoppus pretty well. We’ll miss you Tom, but Matt’s totally in. The band has not abandoned their sound that they had in the album Enema of the State but they have definitely moved on from “Aliens Exist” to “Rabbit Hole”. I can say that I’ve probably listened to all of their albums at least four times, and California is definitely in my top ten favourite albums. After the release of California, The deluxe edition of the album was released May 19, 2017, was said to be like a completely different album. And boy, it was. “It might be even better than California” the bands drummer, Travis Barker, told their producer. The release of California earned the band’s first Grammy nomination, which was well deserved too!
The music is more energetic and definitely more experimental than anything Blink has put out before. From a variety of love songs, party songs, joke songs, and sad songs, the album is an absolute must listen for any of you rockers and skateboard punks.
