The girls soccer season has kicked off. As of April 2, the team’s record is 4-3-1, however Head Coach Brett Brewer believes that the team could have won 1 or 2 of the lost games.
“We have prepared in multiple ways. We started coming in for practices back in July. A lot of girls decided to play club soccer this fall too which helped. We really tried to focus on getting faster and stronger. Since it is my first year as Head Coach we worked on installing our new defense and offense,” Brewer said.
The practices consist of weight lifting, footwork drills, and a lot of different conditioning exercises. This year’s addition of Coach Cori Estes has brought new practice drills to improve the team’s strength to prevent injuries.
Junior Ava Stewart has played at Har-Ber since her freshman year.
“I think that something that has benefited our team this season is our teams dynamic. We are all close and it’s easier to get through the tough practices,” Stewart said.
The Wildcats have struggled with multiple injuries that have ended the season for multiple athletes. However, this has given underclassmen the opportunity to get more playing time.
“Everybody in our conference is our biggest competition this season. I feel like we can beat anybody in our conference, but also be beaten by anybody in our conference on any given night,” Brewer said.
Despite the injuries, their mindset remains going into games.
“All the players have been very resilient. I want all of the players on the team to have as good of an experience as possible and for the Seniors to have a great Senior season,” Brewer said. I am very blessed to get to coach this team here at Har-Ber and I am excited to continue to do so.”
