At the beginning of each season, ultimately every team’s goal is to compete for the state title. With off-season practice starting the first day of school, it seems that no one wants a State Championship as badly as the Wildcat Soccer team.
After the loss of head coach Paul Crouch, the Wildcats (3-1,0-0) feel that they have something to prove with the additions of new players and head coach.
“We have a lot of young and new players that are getting better each game,” said senior goalie Dan Hartigan.
One of the Wildcats’ new standout soccer players is senior David Karr who was previously a varsity defensive back for the football team.
The Wildcats have already started the season hot after winning three of their first four matches and winning the Tulsa Tournament. Their practices consists of daily full-on scrimmaging and tons of cardio and weightlifting exercises.
“We hope we can stay hot and make the playoffs so we can make a run at the State Championship,” said Hartigan.
Despite having a roster that mainly consists of new players, the Wildcats have already seemed to acquire the relationship that is so crucial for a soccer team. A soccer team must always be in sync with one another.
“Our biggest strength is our ability to play as a team,” said senior defensive mid Sergio Herrera. “We are bros on the field and off the field.”
One of the most important skills that are necessary to be a successful soccer team is having clean communication and teamwork during such a fast-pace and intense game.
The team is lead by junior goalies Ben O’Brien and Haritgan. The Wildcats’ next match-up is the Conway Invitational Tournament March 23-24.
