Once the ball is released, it is all over, no more control, no more adjustments, only the ball and the lane. The soft reverberation between the resin ball and hardwood pine floor echoes in the alley. The vibrations are welcomed by the sudden clash of plastic on plastic.
Senior Kady Veteto knew the outcome from the instant she released the ball. It was a strike.
“When I am on the lane, I have to build confidence in myself. I pray before every game and pray for the best,” said Veteto.
Veteto has taken on the unofficial role of leadership on the girls team.
“She’s definitely one of the returning girls that will be leading the team,” said bowling coach Brannon Haney.
Veteto’s highest score is a 225. Last year the bowling Lady Wildcats advanced to the state tournament ultimately finishing tenth overall. The boys team did not advance to the state tournament; however, Jordan Malone did compete individually.
“They are good bowlers. They bowl year round and are fully in,” said Haney.
The state regulations allow the team to practice together two times a week, so practicing on one’s own is crucial.
“For someone to be good at bowling that have practice on their own,” said Haney.
The upcoming season begins in mid-December.
“My expectation for this season is for us to make it to state again and place higher, and we would like to improve our scores from last year,” said Veteto.
