With high hopes of making it to Jonesboro for the 7A state volleyball finals, the Lady Wildcats began their expedition to a state championship Oct. 30 against the Cabot Panthers.
The Lady Wildcats defeated the Panthers in a shut out 3-0.
“The girls played well the first game,” said head coach Sandy Jones.
The next game, however, was a tough game to swallow. The No. 1 seed Conway Wampus Cats halted their journey to the finals Oct. 31 in a 3-0 shut out.
“I wish we would’ve played stronger as a team,” said Coach Jones. “We hoped for a better outcome, but we knew we were facing a tough team.”
Despite the Lady Wildcats being unable to compete in the state finals, senior Kaysan Schneider was ecstatic to be able to compete in her senior year of volleyball after suffering a stress fracture in her tibia after injuring it during a work out over the summer.
“I was really excited and happy when my doctor finally released me,” said Schneider. “It was awesome because I wasn’t expected to be back this season.”
Luckily, Schneider followed her doctor’s orders and was able to be released to play early.
“It’s great that she was able to play because she’s a senior and I’m so happy she was able to compete her senior year,” said Coach Jones.
Schneider was forced to sit out of volleyball for eight weeks due to her injury. Though the injury caused Schneider to not be able to play, she likes to look at her injury in a positive light.
“Even though it was awful being out, this was by far the best season,” said Schneider. “I learned a lot sitting on the bench watching; it made me love the sport even more.”
