By now everyone has heard the numerous scandals and headlines associated with all of the Razorback football team’s drama. Since summer, you haven’t been able to open a local newspaper, check Twitter, or even turn on SportsCenter without hearing some sort of criticism about Hog Football.
The Arkansas Razorback football team usually had limited to no national coverage. Now we seem to be the laughing stock of college football.
Nothing can go right for the Hogs anymore. Their laundry list of scandals seems to be never-ending, and the series of drama continues.
Since the drama of ex-coach Bobby Petrino’s affair, it’s very obvious that this is no longer the same Razorbacks that were projected to be a contender for the National Championship.
After a first-half, nail-biter against Jacksonville State, the Hogs were upset in an overtime disaster against a greatly undersized ULM (University of Louisiana-Monroe).
This not only stumped all of Hog Nation, it also shocked the entire nation. This led to a steep drop in the AP National Rankings for the Razorbacks. With no surprise, they lost their No. 8 ranking and are now an unranked team.
We quickly went from being recognized as a National Championship contender, to now being considered an average team with no significance.
To many Hog fans, the worst part about all of this isn’t all of the bad publicity that our community and university are receiving, Unfortunately, the fans feel the worst part about all of these incidents is the fact that “this was supposed to be our (the Razorbacks) year.
This, and the fact that people were outraged by the firing of Petrino despite the reasoning behind his firing, makes you wonder how desperate fans are to win more games and championships.
All hopes and dreams of us finally winning the BCS Title will continue to be a fantasy for the Razorbacks.
Even if the Hogs somehow manage to get there heads back on straight and find a way to win-out the remainder of the season, they will be lucky to make the bid for a BCS Bowl Game. It’s hard to overcome a loss to a team like ULM.
And even more difficult to overcome the loss of your superstar quarterback, Tyler Wilson. The Heisman hopeful was knocked out during the ULM game and suffered a concussion (not a broken collarbone, despite a false report) and his recovery status is considered a day-to-day.
