Despite losing a doubleheader March 27, Har-Ber (8-4, 2-2) confirmed their young talent in big situations. Sophomore’s Matt Garrison and Gus Vitt each hit big versus Fayetteville (9-3, 2-2).
“Playing as a sophomore [at the varsity level] is a good experience, and I am learning a lot about the game and getting better each day,” said Garrison.
In Game 1 of the twin bill, Garrison had a bases clearing triple, pushing the Wildcat advantage to 6-3. One play later, senior Andrew Crook drove him home. On the shoulders of a six-run fourth inning, Har-Ber held a five run lead heading into the fifth inning. Over the final three innings, Har-Ber’s junior relief pitchers gave up a total of nine runs, and the Wildcat hitting stalled, resulting in a 12-8 loss.
“I was just playing my game,” said Garrison.
Garrison added a walk in Game 2, but it was Vitt who came through in the seventh inning with a game-tying two-run double, to knot the game at two.
“It felt great to know that I came through in a clutch situation to help my team,” said Vitt.
John Jaro (2-1) threw 128 pitches for the Wildcats but took his first loss of the season, due to the lack of offensive production, 4-2.
