It may not seem like there are many differences between the indoor and outdoor track seasons, but to runners it’s a whole new ball game.
“I am excited about the switch from indoor to outdoor because I feel like I do better at outdoor meets” said senior captains Mary Kirchner.
The indoor track season is a very short season that exhibits all of the same events as outdoor.
The Wildcats had a very successful indoor season this year. In one of the very first meets of the year, the girls 4x400m relay team shattered the previous Har-Ber indoor record. The relay team consisted of seniors Valerie Reina and Kirchner and sophomores Mikayla Wilson and Payton Stumbaugh.
Then the state indoor meet rolled around, which was the final indoor meet for the season. The track team performed very well at the state level this year. Distance runners Valerie Riena and Dino Andrade both medaled and placed in multiple running events (1600m and 800m).
This indoor season will help carry some motivation for the Wildcats over into their upcoming outdoor seaon.
“The indoor season was pretty good. I take it seriously, but I see it as getting ready for outdoor.” said Kirchner.
The Wildcats’ first outdoor meet for the 2012 season was March 9 at the Fayetteville High Track.
