Going on runs is something Har-Ber (14-5, 4-2) does well. And it just might have won them a game Tuesday night at Fayetteville High School.
At halftime, the bottom of the conference, Fayetteville Lady Bulldogs (8-10, 1-5), led the Lady Wildcats 23-22. Fayetteville shot 41 percent from the field in the first half, scoring 23, but only scored 15 measly points in the second.
Har-Ber fought in the third quarter to regain the lead, regaining it by one. But it took a fourth quarter Lady Wildcat run to pull away.
Har-Ber outscored Fayetteville by 14 in the fourth, for another major run this season. They had a second quarter thrashing at Bentonville earlier this month, outscoring the Lady Tigers, 17-1. And in non-conference play, running up the score early on Pea Ridge in the first and second quarters, 23-0.
In this affair, the run was led by senior Jessica Olson—and usually is. Olson had 12 points.
She had help from her two posts (seniors Caroline Eubanks and Summer Morgan), in which she assisted to most of the night.
“Our posts do a good job of grabbing the rebounds and looking for an outlet,” said Olson. “It’s something we do a lot in practice, and it’s a part in our game that comes natural to us.”
Eubanks and Morgan combined for 28 points.
The Lady Wildcats remain undefeated in true road games this season, including being 3-0 in the 7-A West.
“We want to win every game at home for our fans, but being undefeated on the road is an added bonus,” said Olson.
Adding to the excitement of runs the Lady Wildcats go on, and remaining undefeated on the road, Har-Ber also beat Fayetteville for the first time in the seven year history.
“It’s quite an accomplishment,” said Olson. “They’ve always been a contending team year in and year out. And to beat them, it shows our teams progression.”
