Four starting varsity football players, Chad Ramey, Jon Vaughn, Evan Johnson, and Michael Fine are doing what most high school senior athletes would never think about doing. Having no off-season, they have joined the basketball team.
“I think they add a winning attitude that comes from their tough playoff loss in football,” said junior Alex Rice.
On Nov. 30 these senior athletes, minus Johnson, all got their chance to prove they can handle the dual sport challenge. They couldn’t have picked a better game.
The Wildcats played Pea Ridge in front of adnormally large student section. It wasn’t long before all of the students realized that these football players had other skills beyond the gridiron.
Especially Chad Ramey.
Ramey, a senior, scored 14 points, including a set of free throws that set the score even and sent the game into overtime. Vaughn, who has played in the previous two seasons, eventually helped push the team to an overtime victory.
“I think Jon will contribute the most (out of the senior football players) because of his experience on being on this team,” said senior Jacob Berry.
These seniors all agree that they continue their athletics and play basketball, instead of taking a break, because they all share a passion for playing sports.
