With state less than two weeks away, Har-Ber Golf teed off against two Rogers opponents to get them even more ready.
In a home match at Stonebridge against Rogers Heritage Sept. 20, senior Zach Coats led the Wildcats with a two-under 34 that ended in Har-Ber victory 155-175.
“The team played very well, our scores were a lot lower than they have been this year, and if we play that well as a team we have a chance to finish high at at state,” said Coats.
Senior Candler Boortz and junior Justin Malott each carded a 40, and freshman Nick Hancock added a 41 to round varsity scoring for the Wildcats.
One day later (Sept.21) the Wildcats returned to the course in an away match versus Rogers at Lost Springs.
Again, Zach Coats topped the leader board with a one-under 35 that held Har-Ber’s 158 strong over Rogers’ 164.
“It was another positive day and when we shoot scores in the 150’s we have a chance to do well and win at state,” said Coats.
Hancock shot a helping low 38, and Malott carded a 41. Boortz shot eight over to end the Wildcat scoring.
In addition to the two rounds played, the Wildcats will go to Fayetteville Country Club (2011 State Championship Location) on Sept. 29 to get a practice round in, before the competition the following week.
Coats has high expectations for his senior year state finals.
“First, I want to personally win state as a team, and to secondly win individually,” said Coats.
