“Our wins and losses aren’t really reflecting on the talent we have. The talent is there, it’s just not fully clicking,” said senior Hailey Guthrie.
The three match losing streak upon the Har-Ber Lady Wildcats (4-5, 1-5), only grew Sept. 12 and Sept. 13 to a season’s fifth loss, consecutively.
“We need to calm down and play our game,” said senior libero Jordan Foley. “Not under estimating any team in our conference is also key.”
With reoccurring serving problems, it just proved too much, as Siloam and Northside each beat the Lady Wildcats. Har-Ber did put up a respectable fight though, going four and five games in each.
With Har-Ber putting up over four hours of travel time between the two games in back-to-back days (coming back empty handed), the frustration started to set in.
“We took a very good Northside team to five games, which shows we are improving,” said Guthrie. “When we play them at home, I definitely predict us to win.”
The confidence level between Tuesday and Thursday’s game was gaping, as the Lady Wildcats were back at home taking on Rogers Heritage (8-9, 0-4) Sept. 15.
After a close loss in the first set, the Lady Wildcats turned the intensity up a notch in the second to win in thrilling fashion, 25-10.
“A lot of it was confidence, I think, that has been a big thing all year,” said Foley. “So our coaches just told us to really pick it up and play how we know we can.”
Foley led the team with 27 digs, while senior Katie Huff added 16 kills in the match.
The Lady Wildcats went on to win the next two sets 25-16, 25-21 to end their five match losing streak.
“I think we really focused on the mistakes we had been making, and what we could do to change them,” said Foley.
