Just three and a half weeks after Superintendent Jim Rollins announced the hiring of new athletic director, Wayne Stehlik, Stehlik had an announcement of his own.
Springdale Har-Ber High School head football coach Chris Wood and Springdale High School head football coach Shane Patrick have joined the Springdale Schools staff in a different way; with the administration.
They will be filling the new roles of district associate athletic directors at each of the two high schools in Springdale, as well as the junior highs.
“It has not taken long to discover the varied talents possessed by our two head football coaches,” said Stehlik, as reported on the district’s website.
Under the new administration, Wood and Patrick will supervise all other head coaching positions at their respective high schools and feeder schools, volunteers, and booster clubs. Wood previously worked with middle school children at Hellstern and Helen Tyson in physical education settings.
“I really enjoyed working at the middle schools, but it was a logical career move for me,” said Wood.
As well as the supervisions (listed above) that will take place, Wood will also take care of daily needs on-site (with no travel needed to the admin. building), parent questions, and checking for compliance to all Arkansas Activities Association guidelines.
“The major benefit [of Coach Wood’s move] is it provides all coaches of each program an on-site person to communicate necessities and/or problems we might have to help our student-athletes compete at the highest level,” said Coach Travis Moreland.
