On April 28, Rogers Heritage (11-5, 2-4) seniors would be introduced for the last time. The War Eagles made the most of a 2-0 victory to roll over a Har-Ber team (7-7-2, 2-4) that is heading down hill.
After starting the conference season in the middle of the pack, Har-Ber has soon slipped to the bottom with one game remaining with cross-town rival Springdale.
Freshman Brian Banuelos scored early to give Heritage the advantage and held that 1-0 advantage to halftime.
“They played a ball behind our outside back, and he had a clear shot from there,” said sophomore goalie Dan Hartigan.
As the horn sounded, signaling the end of the first half, frustration showed on the faces of Har-Ber’s players going into the locker room.
“We came out with no energy, and they threw a ball in long from the sideline into the box, and we let their guy bring it right down and finish right in front of the net,” said Hartigan.
Breaking out of halftime Har-Ber looked to score quick, but instead doubled their deficit giving up the goal to Chris Hernandez 59 seconds in.
“That’s what we were looking to do, come right back in the second half and score. It took it out of us,” said Har-Ber coach Paul Crouch.
Har-Ber resumes play on May 6, where they play Springdale at Bulldog Stadium.
