As of late, students can be seen randomly dancing as if they’re riding a fake horse, or shouting “Heyyyyyy sexy ladyyyy” throughout the the halls. The song behind this behavior is the Korean Pop song “Gangnam Style” by PSY.
It did not take long for the hilarious video for “Gangnam Style” to go viral. Now, after less than a month of being released, the whole world is doing the PSY Gangnam Style dance.
Celebrities have helped publicize the song by posting it to social media pages like Twitter and Facebook. Britney Spears, Josh Groban, Robin Williams, and Katy Perry have all promoted the song, according to allkpop.com.
Two Saturdays ago, PSY was on Saturday Night Live performing Gangnam Style in a skit with dancers and actors alike. So far, the music video for “Gangnam Style” has reached over 200 million views, says allkpop.com.
The dance is super easy to do, and the video of the song is super hilarious. My favorite part is the yoga butt part, because PSY’s face is priceless.
For anyone who doesn’t yet know how to do the Gangnam Style dance yet, it’s pretty simple: ride a fake horse, ride a fake horse while fake lassoing something, and then penguin walk from side to side when the cry of “heyyyyyyy sexy ladyyyyyyy” occurs in the song.
So far, I’ve heard the song blasting from at least three classrooms at random periods throughout the day. And I’m certainly not going to complain. It’s a great song, and I love the dance.
It’s simple, there’s a good beat, and I can’t really find anything not to love. “Gangnam Style” has been playing at my place of employment ever since the video was first released, so I knew the dance before it broke the iTunes top ten.
Right now, the world is doing it Gangnam Style, but will the KPOP fad last, or is it merely that, a fleeting fad? I’m not really sure if I want it to last. Yes, Gangnam Style is great, but I’d rather listen to Carly Rae Jepsen’s new album than a song full Korean that I can’t understand. But I’d still prefer KPOP to Mumford and Sons.
