Lately, the Razorback football organization has been in the news, both local and national news, for off-the-field misconduct. Their press coverage varies from players being arrested for burgarly, to the firing of head coach Bobby Petrino for his affair with a member of the University staff.
Just in this off-season six Razorback football players have been arrested. Aren’t these the same young men who are supposed to be role models of our community?
The news is currently making a mockery of the Razorbacks by constantly broadcasting ESPN headlines about their off-field problems. The nation soon went nuts with new slogans for the Hogs, such as, “Doin’ it Hog Style” and “What’s Wrong with Scoring in the Off Season?”
It’s easy to get caught up in all of the hype of the situation and want to laugh along with all of the jokes. But ultimately, all of this national coverage is shedding a very negative light on our state, our University, our team, our community.
One of the worst parts of this whole situation is that this was supposed to be the “Razorbacks’ year” to win it all. Now everything seems to be falling apart for the Razorbacks. It makes you think that the young Razorback football team cracked under all of their national pressure after a high preseason ranking and National Championship rumors.
If these guys can’t even handle the pressure of playing a game, then are they even worthy of being role models for our community?
