When I go to see a 3D movie, I expect to have objects in the movie flying out at me half of the time. But nowadays I usually find myself sitting in a theater with some glasses on, less money, and nothing flying out at me.
Movies that are made for 3D viewing take time and special effects to bring the objects from the screen to life. In most cases, 3D is used in animation movies to make the animation seem more alive and bring you deeper into the film. I get why they are more expensive and why filmmakers prefer to make them, but I refuse to ever see a non-animation movie in 3D.
A feature film in 3D seems pretty pointless to me. The act of making a movie is to make the viewer feel as if they are not watching a television screen and arrange the shots in a way to make it seem that the actions occuring onscreen aren’t flat. So when non-animation movies are in 3D, I just see it as an excuse for poor depth of field and a way to make more money.
Now even animation movies are using 3D when only two or three objects really fly out at you. In example Toy Story Three was not something made completely for 3D. Those type of movies take planning to fully develop what will and won’t be in 3D. Even Disney is remaking their classic films into 3D to raise popularity because it has become such a fad.
Overall, I am not impressed with over half the 3D movies that come out, and I don’t see a point to them being released into 3D.
