Facebook has always been a social network where others can look at one’s statuses, pictures, and friends. But the ever-changing forum has developed throughout the years to include “checking in.” This allows people to see where you are and with whom. Personally I hate it.
I see why a person would like “checking in” on Facebook. It’s not really a big deal if one has their settings fixed so only certain people can see where you are. Plus, it could be fun to say “I’m in this really awesome place!!”. It simply lets your friends know where you are at all times.
If you don’t have your settings fixed so only certain people could see it, anyone could know exactly where you are.
I think “checking in” is just creepy. Allowing any of your Facebook friends to know where you are, they could just show up out of the blue. It’s another method to stalk someone and stalk someone easily. Facebook friends don’t consist of just your closest friends. It’s people you’ve met a few times. It’s that girl in your math class who asked to borrow your pencil. It’s a lot of people.
And for all those random people on your friends list to see where you are at all times (if you check in that often), it is just creepy!
What if someone you barely know just shows up where you are, it might sound paranoid, but what if they did? It’s just another method to “creep” someone on Facebook, but it’s also a way for all your Facebook friends to find you on a map! It’s weird, and I for one don’t support it.
