School is slowly becoming a form of punishment. It feels like our freedoms are all being stripped away, the few things that make the students still enjoy school.
First the sales of “un-healthy” beverages was banned. Now an old rule is being enforced for the first time that bans students from bringing in any outside drinks that aren’t in a clear water bottle.
Many students showed up on the first day of school and were forced to throw away their large McDonald’s Sweet Teas. Bringing large Sweet Teas to school had become a new tradition that everyone enjoyed taking part in.
All of the students are having to pay the price because of a few individuals who decided they wanted to get their drink on at school. A fair solution to this controversial rule is to let every class of students start out fresh and prove that they do or don’t deserve this privilege. If a kid really wants to get a buzz while at school, they will find a way. This rule really isn’t stopping anyone from bringing alcohol into the school.
We definitely shouldn’t be penalized because of the past.
Also, an excuse for the recent enforcement of this rule is that the students will spill their drinks and ruin the carpets in school. No matter what we drink at school, things are going to be spilled onto the carpets. The ceilings are constantly leaking when it rains, and those leaks create disgusting mold spots on the carpets.
Spills are easy things that can be cleaned up fast to prevent that carpets from being damaged in any way. Besides, the amazing janitors of our school clean the carpets thoroughly every summer.
Accidents happen. People drop things or spill drinks on the floor. The whole shouldn’t be punished for the mishaps of a few. And like it or not, those individuals who want to get their drink on at school will find a way regardless of the rule. Let us have our large sweet tea!
