“Judas,” the story of the man who betrayed Jesus for 30 silver coins, is the title of the new song by artist Lady GaGa. The song is probably one of her most controversial songs ever. Some reviews even go so far as to call her the “Antichrist” and write that she is preaching to her listeners to stop religion.
If those critics had looked a little deeper past the lyrics to read between the lines, they would have been able to see that GaGa is simply singing about how even though people know material things are unnecessary, they still want them. It is a clever metaphor but perhaps she could have picked a less controversial one. Let’s face it, GaGa loves attention, and she certainly knows how to get plenty of it.
The tune is quite catchy and has powerful lyrics about religion in relation to betrayal. GaGa sings, “Jesus is my virtue, but Judas is the demon I cling to.” This line is proof of GaGa not being the Antichrist.
The song was released April 15, which was earlier than expected. Due to a “betrayal” against GaGa, (someone leaked the song), the singer decided to let her fans enjoy the new track three days in advance.
Even though the song holds some controversial lyrics, the tune was an instant hit from the minute it came out. Within hours of being released, “Judas” reached number one on iTunes, bumping “E.T.” by Katy Perry featuring Kanye West down to second place.
The song holds a fresh, yet typical GaGa sound. Yet, “Judas” does sound a bit like “Bad Romance” in a way with the same sorts of stutters and beats.
GaGa has a new album hitting the stores soon and has already let her fans sneak a peek at the upcoming album’s cover. I would definitely suggest waiting for the album to come out even though “Judas” is a great single. I expect the album to be GaGa’s best, certainly beating her previous, top-of-the-charts albums, “The Fame” and “The Fame Monster.”
