Over the past couple of years it seems that everything can cause cancer. Some things are as simple as chewing a particular type of gum or using a certain product. These things have sparked a fear in people.
It’s reasonable to want to prevent cancer from even occurring. It’s a serious issue. It’s a life threatening issue, but to refrain from using certain things because of a risk is illogical.
The biggest item that has sparked a lot of debate are cell phones. According to Health.usnews.com a higher rate of cancer has been found in avid cell phone users. One man so boldly went and blamed cell phones for the cause of his wife’s brain tumor. Health.usnews.com said “cell users overall had a lower rate of the cancers than never-users.”
Rumors of deodorant causing breast cancer in women have been circling around. There is little to no evidence on whether or not deodorant can cause breast cancer but, studies have been conducted. According to Health.usnews.com “a 2004 study heightened concern when researchers found parabens in breast cancer tissue samples”. Paraben is a preservative in deodorant that acts as estrogen, which in high amounts can cause breast cancer in women.
One of the strangest things that has been rumored to cause cancer are bras. A husband and wife team published a book called “Dressed to Kill,” which presented the theory that bras cause a build-up of cancer causing toxins in breast. Bras have never been proven to cause cancer; however, according to health.usnews.com women who don’t wear bras have less dense breast tissue which reduces the risk of breast cancer.
The evidence on whether or not these strange items, as well as many others, cause cancer is very minimal. To live in fear of strange items is pointless. The whole idea is that if people take care of themselves by exercising, eating right, keeping health then they are preventing cancer from developing.
