Miley Cyrus turned 18 on Nov. 23. On Nov. 24, the teen sensation posed nude for Playboy.
Cyrus’ decision to pose nude is just one of the many things that has kept her in the light of controversy for some time now. Her scandalous music video for the song “Can’t Be Tamed,” her semi-nude photo shoot for the magazine Vanity Fair, and most recently an incident involving a video of Cyrus smoking a legal substance called salvia through a bong leaked onto the internet have kept her and her escapades in the sceptic eye of the public.
For the most part, Cyrus has defended her choices, and fans have stuck by her, but does she think about how her decisions come across to her millions of fans, many of them who are very young. When young girls see someone who they consider their role model partaking in such activities, it seems “cool” for them to do it too.
Cyrus, and other young women in the media glare, need to recognize that millions of little girls watch her every move, along with a plethora of paparazzi documenting it. Young girls need as many positive role models as possible, so it is imperative that people such as Cyrus reflect the type of person that young girls want to be.
