As senior council president, Burton thought up the idea of hosting a girl’s powder puff football tournament and a men’s volleyball tournament.
“The senior class council needed a fundraiser to raise money for graduation, so we chose this one,” said Burton. “I thought it was a good way to incorporate the entire school in a fundraiser to create a sense of community.”
The senior class council began planning the tournament at the beginning of the second quarter of school.
“I think it’ll be a successful fundraiser,” said Burton. “It gets the whole school involved, so I think students will enjoy it.”
The powder puff tournament will be held Feb. 2 at 10:00 a.m. in the indoor facility. The men’s volleyball tournament will take place in the gymnasiums on Feb. 17 at 2:00 p.m.
“I remember a few years ago there was a small powder puff league I heard about,” said junior Samantha Weber. “It looked like a lot of fun so when I heard about the tournament this year, I really wanted to be apart of it.”
Weber will be playing on the girl’s basketball powderpuff team and hopes the tournament will bring the team closer together.
“We aren’t just playing basketball like usual,” said Weber. “I think the team will bond over this more because it’s outside of basketball.”
When senior Chase Colvin first heard about the news of the men’s volleyball tournament, he could only think of one thing.
“I could only think of wearing short shorts,” said Colvin. “The only reason we’ll win any of our games is because the other team will be blinded by white legs.”
Burton was able to approve the tournaments after meeting with Dr. Brackett.
The girl’s basketball team won the powder puff tournament on Monday, Feb. 11. They faced the dance team with an astounding score of 30-6.
