When Dr. Michael Shepherd was announced as the National Assistant Principal of the Year, he received $5,000 in award money to be given back to his school. That money will be used to help purchase TVs and software to run a digital signage project, which will be installed as early as May or over the summer.
“With the end of the school year at hand, it looks like it will be late May or early summer before we can get things up and running,” said Aaron Harris, Assistant Principal, who is overseeing the project.
So far two TVs will be placed in the rotunda. Each one will be mounted on each column under the stairwell.
“TV’s are planned for the cafeteria, counseling center, and outside the seminar room,” said Harris. “Due to some funding issues we may have to wait to install the TVs in the cafeteria.”
The TVs will be used to show announcements, testing schedules, live weather maps, upcoming events, ball game scores and much more. Everything playing on the TVs will be controlled through the office.
“[The TVs provide] better communication with students that will be immediate,” said Mr. Harris. “We will broadcast live when there is a major event in the news and weather situations.”
The school’s easy communication with the students will help the students be informed and prepared for any event or emergency.
Various clubs and organizations are being asked to help donate towards the school project. Some faculty members have also made donations towards the TVs. Everyone involved in the purchasing on the TVs will be recognized when the TV’s are installed and functioning.
