He thinks back to his tryout, feeling confident about how he played. After a few hours, the list is finally posted. Jason Potts eyes the list to find out that he made first band second chair, an amazing accomplishment for a sophomore.
“I flipped out when I found out,” said Potts. “It was pretty surprising.”
Potts plays trombone and prepared for his tryout by practicing a couple hours each day.
“Band is really important me,” said Potts.
The band had 120 entries with 51 students who made All-Region.
“We’re proud of all of our kids,” said band instructor Jeremy Ford. “We try our hardest every time.”
The band has always had the most students make it within the region since the second year the school opened. Bentonville came in second this year with 43 students making All-Region Band.
“The students who made are the ones who started practicing early, were well prepared, and had a good audition,” said Ford.
The students who made All-Region Band now have the chance to tryout for an even more prestigious band, the All-State Band. Tryouts for All-State are Feb. 5 in Conway, Arkansas. The clinic for those who make it will start Feb. 16.
