Arkansas’ Director of Professional Development Doug Ask presented Dr. Michael Shepherd with the honor of Arkansas’ Assistant Principal of the Year Award. In attendance to honor Dr. Shepherd were Superintendent Jim Rollins, board members, colleagues, and his wife Lara and two sons.
“An award like this says more about the people you work with and the place you work than it does the actual person who won the award,” said Dr. Shepard after being presented with the award. “I couldn’t do this without all of you.”
Ask, a member of the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators, was part of the committee who reviewed Dr. Shepherd’s nomination, which was submitted by Principal Danny Brackett.
“It’s very commendable the work he has done at Har-Ber, the work he’s done with other teachers, the positive work he’s done with the AP programs and the improvements he’s made,” said Ask. “He’s done some great work with the language learners, and that’s a big deal up here.”
The committee reviewed the nominees and voted by secret ballot.
“We were very pleased to present that [award] to him,” Ask said.
Because of the state recognition, Dr. Shepherd could represent Har-Ber as a regional winner if selected.
If chosen, he could be among those honored at the National Association of Secondary School Principal’s conference Feb. 24-27 in San Francisco, Calif.
“He could very well be a regional winner,” Ask said.
