The year is coming to an end and new tides are turning. With the exit of the senior class, the position of Editor in Chief is left vacant for the next grade. Senior Emma Pierce will be stepping into that role this year. There will also be more positions for editing like managing editor and copy editor open to the new group of journalism students. Though the people are changing, productivity doesn’t look too slow. Her many experiences may provide good insight for her edits.
“Over the past few years, I have had to write various stories that are completely different from one another,” Pierce said, “so I think that’ll help me as an editor because I can have experience with almost every kind of story.”
This year’s class was filled with tons of senior leadership. With their graduation the class will look to Pierce. Many of the returning journalists have been asked to apply for the new editing positions that were once filled by seniors. The new wave will bring a different perspective of editing and a new youth.
“I am going to keep the same thing that we did last year,” Pierce said, “I will have a managing editor help me and then an editor for each section to help as well.”
Senior, Grayson Spurlock is a friend and journalist along with Pierce. He has written many stories that Pierce has edited. He is going to work alongside her again for another year. Spurlock’s writing skills have greatly improved with the help of Pierce.
“I have seen improvement in my writing,” Spurlock said. “It has gotten easier to write about my topics as well.”
