Going above and beyond is an extreme understatement for junior student, Ethana Hang. She is one of the most dedicated people in her academics and it shows through her many achievements.
“The courses and chords I plan on having by graduation are the AP medallion, medical honors, service hours, medical completers, NHS, and student council.” Hang said.” I have my seal of bi-literacy in Spanish and Vietnamese, I’m an AP scholar, and vice president of Hosa.”
As you can see, Hang is very busy. She is reaching for the stars in her academics and is very involved with the school. All of this is preparation and focus is to get her into college and further her future career.
“After high school I plan on going to college, hopefully an Ivy League and then going to medical school.” Hang said.
According to Hang, her life is pretty much laid out for her. She knows what she wants to do and is working hard toward that goal. With her role in Hosa, graduating with medical completers, and medical honors, Hang is very set on what she wants to be when she is older.
“I want to be a neurosurgeon. I really like the brain, it’s really fascinating to me, and I love surgery.” Hang said.” I like doing problem solving and working with my hands.”
With all her goals, activities, clubs, and classes you can see how it would be a difficult task to juggle all of it, but Hang knows how to handle it in the most efficient way.
“I just don’t procrastinate and focus,” Hang said, “I just take one thing at a time.”
Throughout the years of having high academic achievements, Hang has learned how to balance all the work. She has learned how to stay focused and get her work done as soon as possible, so that way she can move onto the next task at hand. Not only does she have to do all her class work but she also has to put in the work for the tennis team.
“I am ranked number two seed for singles.” Hang said.
Time management has to be a major strength when it comes to her balancing a sport and classwork. Hang has good methods for prioritizing and getting things done.
“I try to get all my work done so that I don’t have to worry about it while I play tennis. So on the days where I have matches I kind of like adjust what I have to do so I’m not overwhelmed when I come home from a match.” Hang said.
Adjusting her work time and making sure it is done before matches helps her a lot in her time management. Hang is a hard worker in school and out of school not just academically but also athletically. People like her parents motivate and push her, including herself.
“There’s not an external pressure on me like my parents don’t push me as hard as it seems, it’s mainly just internally. I have to do well for myself.” Hang said.
Hang’s parents are a big factor of why she wants to excel academically, but it’s herself that pushes her to achieve all her accomplishments. She describes herself as a perfectionist and sees it as a strength but also a weakness.
“I’m a really bad perfectionist so it creates this cycle of, I have to do well.” Hang said.
According to Hang, her perfectionism creates a strong mindset, making her always want to succeed to the best of her abilities while also struggling to finish due to her need for perfection. Her dad is someone who pushes her and makes her strive for success as well.
“My father is someone who pushes me, he did really well in school when he was young and I want to make him proud and he supports me.” Hang said.
She works hard to make her parents proud and according to Hang works for academic validation as well. Hang strives for success and wants big things for her future, with all her hard work and dedication to her school work her head is completely set on who she wants to be.
“I think the biggest thing is just that I care a lot, so that’s why I do so well.”
