Cheers rise from the stands, flags and signs wave all around, and screams echo through the gym. There is way more that meets the eye when you see tons of students stacked and squished side by side at a sports game. Har-Ber’s Blue Crew works hard behind the scenes to make all school spirit possible.
“I think Blue Crew brings us all together as a community, it gives people something to look forward to.” Baldwin said.
Senior, Jack Baldwin is the leader of the student sections at sport games. He believes that Blue Crew has really tightened our schools community and brought tons of kids together, he loves Blue Crew and the environment they have created.
“I am really proud of the brand we’ve created around Blue Crew over the past few years. We always strive to keep it classy and keep it fun.” Pierce said.
Senior Vice President of Blue Crew, Emma Pierce, agrees with Baldwin that the group has kept a healthy environment that took a while to build. They both believe students should not discourage other teams rather, build our own team up with competitive, constructive energy.
“Blue Crew intimidates other schools because of our intense energy and positive attitudes,” Pierce said,” no matter if we win or lose we just want everyone to have fun.”
High School sports can get very competitive, but our Blue Crew leaders make it one of their goals to keep the intimidation and competitiveness respectful. Optimism is a huge part of the players performances and Har-Ber’s student sections gives it all to them. According to the leaders, having a positive attitude is a big part of being on Blue Crew staff.
“Positivity and leadership is the best trait to have if you’re in Blue Crew.” said Smith.
Laurel Smith, Blue Crew President is big on positivity and making sure no negativity happens during games wether winning or losing. According to Blue Crew leaders, the student sections are amazing at showing positivity and cheer with chants and participating in themes.
“Blue Crew creates themes and we send them out in advance so students and fans all know what to wear,” Pierce said, “we also blow it up on social media so everyone knows what’s happening.”
Social Media is a big part of how this club gets out their information on themes, dates, and times of games. Smith says polls go out a few days before games to decide what the theme will be. According to Blue Crew members and students, themes are a great way to get students involved and excited for games.
“Blue Crew influences Har-Ber by making all the students involved,” Smith said, “people see how much fun we are having and decided they want a part of that.”
