After the slowest week of life, Spring Break 2013 has FINALLY arrived. Brighter clothing, shorter shorts, and tank tops litter the store racks with hope of warmer weather and golden rays of sunshine.
Spring Break destinations range from the beach, Devil’s Den, and even China.
Sophomore Abby Lovell and senior sister Rachel Lovell plan to take a family vacation to China, the country they were originally born in.
“We are going back to see our youngest sister’s orphanage for the first time,” said Abby.
Abby and Rachel have both previously visited their orphanage they were adopted from.
“My favorite part of China is seeing the Terra Cotta warriors,” said Abby.
While some students are choosing to leave the country for Spring Break, senior Will Tenney has decided to spend part of his Spring Break at Arkansas’s Devil’s Den.
“I’m hoping for warm weather,” said Tenney.
Tenney and a friend from Springdale High School plan to hike the Butterfield trail at Devil’s Den. The trail is 15 miles long, an easy-going, carefree trip for Tenney.
“This is the first time I will have hiked this trail,” said Tenney. “I thought Spring Break would be the perfect time to conquer it.”
English teacher Amy Johnson is planning to spend her Spring Break preparing for a golf tournament and going on a float trip on the King’s River.
“My husband and I are going to practice golf in Missouri,” said Mrs. Johnson. “We are competing in a golf tournament this summer so we thought we’d get some practice in.”
Of course, traveling for Spring Break and escaping the norms of Northwest Arkansas can be fun, but spending the vacation away from school can be equally enjoyable at home too.
“I’m just going to enjoy Spring Break and hang out with friends,” said senior Hailey Hendrix. “Being able to have a week off from school is the best part of Spring Break.”
