When she’s not practicing her skills out on the pitch, senior Ellie Williams shares another passion other than soccer.
“I’ve always loved clothes,” said Williams. “Fashion is really fun to me and isn’t the usual hobby most people get into to.”
As a little girl, Williams watched her mother use what some people would describe as ‘out there’ clothing to express herself. Inspired by her mother, Williams uses eclectic fashion to be different from others and be an individual.
“As a kid I always had fashion shows with my Bratz dolls and watched Project Runway,” said Williams. “The outfits on there are pretty unique and that’s why I like it.”
Rather than purchasing all of her clothes from stores, Williams puts to use the forgotten gems in her grandmother and mother’s closets.
“I like taking old clothes and making them new again,” said Williams. “I’ll take scarves and wear them in different ways like as a headband or a belt, or take a dress and hem it up so it’s more modern.”
Some kids reveal their individualism through art or music, but Williams prefers fashion to the others.
“Fashion is my to express myself,” she said. “I can’t sing or draw well, but I can be creative in my clothing choice.”
Being creative in fashion can take practice. Williams gains fashion experience every time she goes to work. Williams has a job a Vintage Violet, a vintage boutique in Fayetteville.
As part of her job, Williams is responsible for dressing people when they come to the store to shop.
“My boss is really out there with her clothes too,” said Williams. “Working at Vintage Violet gives me more confidence in my own clothing choices.”
In the future, Williams plans to become a fashion buyer, or own a small business like Vintage Violet. Another career Williams is considering is a fashion coordinator.
“Being a fashion coordinator would be awesome because the coordinator gets to orchestrate fashion shows and is in charge of the company’s image,” she said.
Whatever career she pursues, Williams just hopes she can continue her passion in the future.
