Some students were disappointed that spirit week wasn’t during homecoming week. However, STUCO pulled together to come up with daily themes for the week of the Springdale game Nov. 2.
The week began with ‘Merica Monday, a day for everyone to flaunt their patriotic garb after the Fourth of July. Seniors Adam Bowlin and Pierce Phillips both went all out for the day, toting full-size American flags with them.
“I dressed big today because ‘Merica. It’s nasty time,” said Bowlin, who rocked a mullet and cutoff jeans with flag pockets.
Phillips looked classy in his American flag bow tie and mustache glasses.
“It’s the land of the free and the home of the brave, and you’ve gotta be brave to dress up,” Phillips said.
Tuesday’s spirit theme was my personal favorite, Superhero Day. Some of the most popular costumes seen around the rotunda were Superman, Batman, and Ninja Turtles. Sophomore Whitney Webb wore her Halloween costume, the red Ninja Turtle Raphael.
“I went as Raphael because we have the same personality,” said Webb.
Senior Richard Strouse showed up to school as Robin from the Batman and Robin series.
“I chose to be Robin because I’m a fan. And I had to be Robin to Hannah’s Batman,” he said.
His costume was relatively easy to put together because he had all of the pieces already, including the green gloves, which he found in his parent’s shed.
Junior Kyle Pianalto dressed as Flash from DC’s Justice League comics, on his favorite spirit day, Superhero Day.
“I’m just trying to show school spirit,” he said of his mostly homemade costume, which was made of velcro flash symbols on red sweats and a t-shirt.
Wednesday was Heritage Day. Many students went all out with their “white trash” costumes, while others dressed classy simply to spite their trashy masquerading peers. Others still simply wore their Halloween costumes simply because of the collision of Heritage Day with Halloween.
Junior Madison Kennedy got into character for the day, rocking maternity jeans from Goodwill and a falsified baby bump made of pillow stuffing and saran wrap. Senior Austin Hazelton wore a very ‘punny’ shirt that read “Six pack abs” with a six pack underneath it, which he found cheaply at Walmart.
Junior Lydia Hayden was inspired by her family for Heritage Day.
“How they dressed was pretty redneck,” said Hayden.
Students interpreted Throwback Thursday in various ways. Sophomore Shawn Bounkhong wore his Kermit the Frog onesie, which he wore at a Christmas party last year. However, Bounkhong is most excited for White Out.
“I’m going all out for that one,” he said.
Many former junior high cheerleaders and dancers dressed throwback by wearing their old uniforms. Senior Tori Hodge was part of a group of senior girls that wore their ninth grade cheer uniforms for the day.
“We wanted to dress up together for senior year,” said Hodge.
Friday was a snow-white vision,as many students dressed in white. The pep rally was once again a backlight event, filled with student performances that were entertaining and well-composed. The band, cheer, dance, and senior performance group pepped up the student body.
