Senior Cassidy Kendrick has been a part of DECA since her sophomore year, and all the hard work’s paid off, as she is now the president. Kendrick was also president for her junior year and is very excited to spend her last year of high school participating in DECA events, starting with the annual DECA fall leadership mini-conference.
The conference took place Oct. 24 at the Holiday Inn Convention Center. It started out with an open session full of speeches to get students ready for the day, followed by a 25-question test all members took. A few of the various categories students could test in were Hospitality or Business Administration.
After testing, students could participate in four workshops of their choice. Kendrick participated in the state officer workshop involving “DECA role play”.
“What I love the most is the opportunities in networking and leadership that DECA opens for me,” says Kendrick. She’ll also be participating in the state DECA conference in late February.
At the end of the conference, closing speeches were made and awards were handed out. Of the 40 students that represented Har-Ber, only one brought an award back.
Senior Hayden Redmond won first place in the financing competition, which approximately 15 people competed in. The participants had to answer a 25 question test, and the best scores placed.
“I took it as a joke and was surprised when I won,” said Redmond.
The actual competitions that will count for DECA’s track record will be held at state competitions in February where the club will be rigorously competing to earn some awards for the school.
