People enter their names into drawings all the time without any thought of actually winning. On Oct. 20, Spanish teacher Robert Snyder traveled to Memphis to see if he had won a car.
At the event, Mr. Snyder was given key No. 3 after his number rolled out of the machine. With this key, he was told to try to start car No. 3 on the stage. If the car started, this meant Mr. Snyder had won a car. He sat down, turned the key, and the engine came to life, meaning he had won!
Seven people traveled to Memphis that day with hopes of being the grand prize winner. But there could only be one; and that one person was Mr. Snyder. He was the only person that won a car that day, with two runner-ups winning round trip tickets to anywhere in the world.
“When I won, I was really excited and I jumped up and down,” said Mr. Snyder. “I was the only grand prize winner!”
Mr. Snyder was watching a movie at the Razorback Malco theatre when he noticed a tab on the side of his cup. It read, “You have won $250 and now have the chance to win a car!”
Mr. Snyder won a Honda Fit, a fuel-efficient car.
“This is basically the only thing I’ve ever won in my life,” said Mr. Snyder. “It feels great to win!”
Mr. Snyder’s sister also traveled with him to Memphis to accompany him in winning a car.
“My sister screamed and yelled,” said Mr. Snyder. “She was just as excited as me!”
After winning his car, Mr. Snyder was then interviewed by a radio show about his new car.
“It was awesome being on the radio,” said Mr. Snyder.
Rather than keeping both of his cars, Mr. Snyder sold his old Ford Fiesta when he was given his new Honda Fit.
“My new car has more gadgets and runs smoother,” said Mr. Snyder. “I like it much better than my old one.”
