As the basketball players run in to start their game, junior Brandon Beyer high fives each one. As the game goes on Beyer paces nervously like a coach while he wears his special Wildcat jersey signed by each of the current members of the team.
“I like to give them high fives when they come in and watch them play,” said Beyer.
Beyer is truly the number one fan at all athletic games. From football games to volleyball matches, he is at every home game. His favorite, however, is basketball. Each morning before he comes to school he reads the paper to catch up on his favorite teams.
“Brandon loves sports. He always comes to school telling us what he read that morning about his favorite teams,” said resource teacher Michelle White.
As the number one fan, basketball coach Adam Simmons honored Beyer with one of the Wildcat basketball team’s old jerseys. New uniforms were purchased for the team and the old ones were sold to raise money. However, Coach Simmons selected a jersey that was Beyer’s size and had each team member autograph it. They presented it to Beyer at the beginning of the year as a gift to him for being so supportive of the team.
“He’s at every home game and is always so excited for us,” said Coach Simmons. “He always comes to support us, so it was the least we could do.”
Beyer wears his jersey at the pep rallies and to the basketball games, which he attends either alone or with his parents.
“I love my jersey. It was nice of them,” said Beyer.
Beyer looks forward to each and every pep rally. He talks nonstop about going to the gym and seeing everyone. He loves to get together with the entire school to support the athletic events and athletes.
“He loves to go to the pep rallies. He gets really excited,” said Mrs. White. “If he could stay in a pep rally all day, he would!”
During his high school career, Beyer has always supported his Wildcats, cheering them on in victory or defeat. In some instances, he’s the only student standing and cheering.
“If he got cut, I’m certain he would bleed blue. That’s how supportive he is,” said Coach Simmons. “He’s a Wildcat at heart and always will be Har-Ber’s number one fan!”
