Thursday, Oct 27th, the third official element day took place. Students were given the opportunity to pick what they would be responsible for researching and make a wanted poster for their element. Along with their poster, the students were also required to dress up in a unique outfit expressing their element.
Junior chemistry student Lindsey Birch was assigned californium.
“It was fun to take a break from the normal school work,” said Birch, “I learned a lot more than I had expected to.”
Students were asked to design their outfits around their elements.
Sophomore Anna Hudgeons chose the element krypton. She decided to wear a Superman shirt with a cape. The outfit aimed to make a play on the words krypton and kryptonite.
“It was cool way to learn about elements in depth while still having a good time,” said Hudgeons
Element day was a chance for students and teachers alike to celebrate chemistry and the elements of the periodic table.
The purpose for the project for students to see how elements are used in the real world.
“My favorite element is lithium because it can treat medical conditions like bipolar disorder,” said chemistry teacher Lynsey Reynolds, “It also has many hidden uses.”
