New chemistry and physics teacher Lara Irvin waits patiently at her favorite amusement park, Cedar Point, in line for one of the most classic roller coasters, Magnum. She hears her phone ring and scrambles to answer it in hope that is it principal Dr. Danny Brackett from the school she hopes to soon be teaching at. Dr. Brackett congratulates her for being picked to be the new chemistry teacher, replacing retired teacher Kelly Marrs.
“I instantly felt a rush of emotions,” said Irvin. “I was sad to leave my old school, but I know I made the right choice.”
Irvin found out she obtained the job in June. She had previously taught for seven years and most recently taught sciences at Rogers Heritage High School. She was apart of the AAIMES program and was allowed the opportunity to work with teachers and students from HBHS.
“I was so impressed by the commitment at Har-Ber to promoting math and science to everyone,” said Irvin.
Irvin had already signed her contract for another year teaching at Heritage but had a change of heart due to her fondness for Har-Ber’s motto, heart, and universal yearning to learn.
“I absolutely love the motto here, ‘We are Har-Ber,’” said Irvin. “All of the teachers and students here love learning, and you can feel the heart of the school.”
Irvin says she expects to learn more about herself through her students and looks forward to a great year at her new school.
