Onstage at around midnight on Feb. 26, junior Walker Collins feels the rush of 300 people jumping and cheering his name. This is just another night in the exciting career of DJ Mobster, Collins’ name while working as a DJ for parties called raves at Gymnastic Joe’s at the Fayetteville Mall.
Collins became interested in DJ’ing while listening to techno music and thinking, “It’d be cool to make music like that.”
He went to a rave with his friend to see what it would be like and quickly found a new passion. At Christmastime, he asked for a DJ set.
After getting his DJ career stared in the beginning of January, Collins performed for the first time as DJ Mobster at the Hub Valentine’s Day rave Feb. 12. Collins plays electrohouse music at the raves, which is a lot like the music style of “Kill The Noise,” “Boys Noize,” and “Deadmau5,” all of which are Collin’s inspiration.
“Being onstage performing is a great feeling,” said Collins. “When I went onstage Saturday and all of the crowd was jumping and cheering my name, it was a good feeling, a feeling like no other.”
