Loud cheers, concession stand food, team paraphernalia; this is what senior Victoria Covert has been waiting for ever since she found out her team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, would be taking on the Green Bay Packers in Superbowl XLV.
Covert and her family have always been Steelers fans and are looking forward to cheering on their team.
“My dad and his side of the family are originally from Butler, Pennsylvania, right outside of Pittsburgh. This has resulted in years and years of cheering on the Steelers,” said Covert.
Covert and her family are especially excited this year, hoping that the Steelers will take their seventh Superbowl victory.
“This Superbowl is significant because it proves that not only can the Pittsburgh Steelers be the only team to have six Superbowl championships under their belt, they can be the only team with seven,” said Covert.
Superbowl celebrations are not the same without friends to partake in the festivities with.
“This year, my family and I are going to our friends’, the Thompsons, house. For as long as I can remember, it’s always been the Thompsons that my dad has enjoyed watching Steelers games and smack-talking with,” said Covert.
Covert has been embracing her faith in her team and her hope for the Packers’ defeat with friends.
“My dear friend Allen Franco is a Packers fan, and I must say that I’ve enjoyed all of the smack talk between us thus far, I just hope that he’ll be able to cope with such a merciless beating by the Steelers! Maybe he’ll come to his senses after our victory and convert from living life as a “cheese-head,” said Covert.
Despite all of the winter weather, Covert is looking forward to Sunday with fervor, and is ready to partake in all of the classic Superbowl traditions.
“I’m most looking forward to gloating after another Steeler victory. I’m also looking forward to wearing as much Steeler paraphernalia as possible, and much like any other sporting event, cheese dip and chili are a must-have on game day. It’s extremely suitable for this weather,” said Covert.
Covert is hopeful and even expectant for another Steelers victory.
“I’m absolutely expecting us to win, because most of our team has had recent Superbowl experience, and we’ve continued to have the No. 1 defense in the NFL year after year,” said Covert.
