Imagine standing on the stage of a sold out show with 30,000 people chanting your name. The spotlight was shining on senior Kendrick Inthavongsa who experienced a once in a lifetime moment when he was invited on stage at the Travis Scott concert, November 18th at the BOK center in Tulsa. Scott is a world renowned rapper who has been nominated for 8 Grammys and had four number one-hits on the ‘US Billboard Hot 100 Chart.’ According to Inthavongsa, it was an extremely last minute decision to go to his concert in the first place.
“I had already been to his show in Kansas City,” Inthavongsa said.” but a few days before the Tulsa show I saw floor tickets were selling for 150 dollars so I had to buy them.”
Scott announced to the audience mid performance that he would be picking fans from the crowd to come on stage with him for a couple songs. Inthavongsa got on his friends shoulders and attempted to get the rappers attention. However, he was shocked when Scott noticed him in the crowd.
“I got on my friend’s shoulders and I was wearing this suit,” Inthavongsa said.”I was jumping up and down and Travis saw me and was like get that dude up here so he can stand on business.”
According to Inthavongsa, he crowd surfed over hundreds of people to get to the stage. At the concert, Scott uses a floating stage for a few of his songs. Inthavongsa had to be strapped down onto the stage for safety measures while Scott played SDP Interlude, Fien, and Sirens.
“It was crazy because everyone was looking at me,” said Inthavongsa. “I was on the jumbotron and it was a sold out show with 30,000 people.”
After the concert, videos of him dancing with Scott were circling around on various social media platforms.
“I was just scrolling through my for you page on Tik Tok when I saw a video of some kid on stage with Travis Scott,” senior Carter Swope said.” I noticed he looked really familiar and then I noticed it was Kendrick and I was so surprised.”
Swope, along with many other students, came across videos of Inthavongsa and Scott dancing at his concert and were utterly very surprised.
After being a fan since middle school when the popular rappers album ‘AstroWorld’ came out, this experience was insane and a moment he will ultimately never forget.
“It was just so crazy.” Inthavongsa said, “ever since middle school, I have always liked his music so getting on stage with him was unreal.”
