I’ve already reviewed the new album on my Tumblr, but seeing as it isn’t an intelligent review with human commentary or full English sentences, I’m reviewing it again. That, and I love One Direction so much.
It is unarguable to say that One Direction has taken over the US. They’re on TV, all over iTunes, and (for some of us) irrevocably stuck in our hearts.
Their new album, “Take Me Home,” was released Nov. 13 worldwide. The first single from the album, “Live While We’re Young,” has been on the radio for about a month to promote the album.
“Take Me Home” was vastly different from “Up All Night” in the way that the former had a wider range of solos than the latter. Their sound itself didn’t change, but in “Up All Night,” Liam started nearly every song, followed by Harry, then Zayn, with Niall and Louis receiving few solos. On “Take Me Home,” the solos are more spread out between the boys, and each one gets to start a song.
The music style hasn’t changed, but let’s be honest here, did it really need to? Based solely off of the success of “Up All Night,” the boys didn’t really need a new sound.
My favorite songs off of the new album were “Heart Attack,” “They Don’t Know About Us,” and “Little Things,” which sounded entirely different from other songs on the album.
“Little Things” was written by Ed Sheeran (who also wrote “Moments” off of their previous album) and is a beautiful acoustic with heartfelt lyrics about a how a girl hates all of her flaws, but a boy loves all of the little things that she hates about herself. The boys harmonize beautifully during the final chorus. When I first heard the album, I legitimately teared up during this song. I need a boyfriend.
“Last First Kiss” also instills this want of a boyfriend/significant other in girls. The 1D boys just sing as if they’re every girl’s generic perfect man. And let’s not kid ourselves ladies, they’re pretty flawless (attractive, beautiful voices, great personalities).
On the opposite end of the spectrum, “Heart Attack” is a peppy anthem about being stuck on a girl. “You’re giving meĀ a heart attack looking like you do,” says the chorus. It’s just a really cute song.
The album’s name comes from the chorus of “Kiss You,” which reminds me of the song “Back For You.” They both just have similar overall meaning, not to say that they’re not both amazing.
One of the songs that was leaked early on the internet was “They Don’t Know About Us,” and I’m so glad that it was. The lyrics are about a relationship that people judge without reason. Solos in the song are just perfectly distributed. It’s just a wonderful song all over.
The entirety of the album is something worth fingerling over. And I apologize for my seemingly excessive love for One Direction, I promise I’m not crazy. I just love their music and them as people; they definitely aren’t the only people I fangirl over obsessively (All Time Low and Katy Perry). If you don’t like 1D, I don’t care, just go give them a shot. They’re worth it.
