A new addiction has swept the school once again. The new application, Draw Something, produced by OMGPOP, has risen into the top 25 on Apple’s App Store.
Draw Something offers a free app with ads and a limited amount of words while the $0.99 version provides 2000 more words, 400 free coins, and no ads.
The rules of the game are simple. A player creates a game with a friend through Facebook, e-mail, username, or a random person. After creating a game, a player chooses one of three things to draw, and creates the drawing. To play this game, no drawing skills are required! The friend must then guess what the drawing is. Each player receives coins for guessing correctly.
Coins allow players to purchase more colors and “bombs,” which allow players to “blow up” unnecessary letters when guessing a drawing.
Overall, the game is addicting and extremely entertaining. Each game never ends as players try to break records for most turns. A new feature the app has added is the ability to delete a game. In order to dismiss a game, just swipe the game to the right and a red “Delete” box will appear.
One downfall fo the game is the lack of variety of colors players are first given, (red, yellow, blue, and black). This proves difficult when given the task of drawing “green.” When this happens, players are forced to be creative.
The worst part of this app is all the glitches it has right now. Draw Something desperately needs an update to fix the bugs and glitches. When opening the app, half the time the current games do not appear. Also, even though players have correctly guessed the image, the app claims they have not, denying coins and restarting the game to turn one. The frustrating glitch of all is the frequent crashing the app is experiencing.
Despite these defects of the game, the game is great. I love the variety of words such as, Lady Gaga, penguin, and Katniss. With a new update that fixes the glitches, the app could arise to be greater than Words with Friends.
