Once upon a time, I was told I was a princess. Someone told me this while I was trudging through a creek in a forest far away from nearby roads. And I was given a story too, a picture perfect classic Disney adventure for my memories.
I was a princess, locked in a cellar (it explained why I am so pale) by my evil Step-Mother. Hidden deep in a forest a knight found the little cottage where I was hidden. This knight took it upon himself to rescue me and take me on a mission to find my Father and the kingdom.
We ended up in a forest full of wild creatures and beasts. We fought our way through a deep river, but the knight wouldn’t let me touch the water. He feared some danger might find me if he let me walk through the river. Unfortunately the knight didn’t finish our mission this night, but we kept trying.
I learned a lot about someone that day, and I let somebody learn a lot more about me. I got called a princess and taken on a grand adventure that is honestly my favorite memory of all time. I’m a girl who loves fairytales and adventures.
Even better than having someone create a story like that for me, I had someone listen to me. I had someone take interest in my life and care to learn about me and memorize everything I said.
That day when I was called a rebellious princess, I was immediately reminded of the movie “Tangled,” and I was taken away from the world into a new place that was my own. But it wasn’t created by me, it was created by one of the people I’m closest to. He kept taking me back there, to just escape, be free, and have fun. It’s a great place to go to, that imagination.
Although it has been a while since I was told I was a princess, I don’t mind. I still have that great memory, and I know that kingdom still exists somewhere. I still have this close friend who invented this place for me. But the real world has struck me hard lately. Maybe it’s time to go back to that place and be free from all this craziness for a while. Maybe it’s time to go back and have another adventure in that creek away from roads, and all the troubles of today.
There is a freedom you can’t find anywhere in real life.
