The relatively unknown British pop tycoon of Cherry Tree records is debuting on her first LP, “Lights,” March 8. Ellie Goulding’s previous EP, “An Introduction to Ellie Goulding,” is a preview of her first four songs.
“Starry Eyed” is the first song on the EP and is just excellent and very exciting. The talk of everyone being starry-eyed and colorful with carousels and playgrounds over the escalating electronic beats and sparkling acoustic sounds can make anyone happy.Goulding’s slight tint of British accent in her vocals sounds lovely and compliments the music well.
“Guns and Horses” is slightly different from the first song due to the added acoustics. At first, the song sounds a lot like the meaningful and sweet songs on the radio today, but as the chorus picks up, the song blows up and becomes an empowering dance song that makes you feel fierce.
“If I could erase the pain, maybe you’d feel the same, I’d do it all for you,” says the movingly emotional chorus.
This song is very dramatic and climactic with a lot of meaning packed in.
The third song on the EP is quite different from its predecessors because it’s acoustic only. “The Writer (Acoustic Version)” is the third beautiful song. While not as great of dance song, it shows off Goulding’s vocals excellently.
The fourth song, “Lights,” is slightly deeper, saying “I had a heart there, but the queen has been overthrown.”
Goulding’s vocals are very powerful and prominent in the chorus especially, and it all mixes well with the electronic effects and powerful beats of the song.
“Animal,” a currently unreleased song off her upcoming LP, starts out with a beautiful guitar mixed with Ellie’s softly-sang lyrics. The song picks up and electronic effects are added in. The dance-style chorus blows up and forms a total eargasm.
The way she says “Animal” with that British accent is so darn adorable. This song sounds like a fairy tale because of the gorgeous effects backing up her voice.
“You have stolen all my senses there’s a fever in my heart, and you are taking my defenses; you are burning me apart,” says the dramatic and exciting chorus.
The minute-and-a-half iTunes previews are already available to listen to on the preorder of “Lights”.
Goulding is definitely a superb artist and will be going places with songs this great. Give Ellie Goulding a try for happy dance music!
